The Global CCS Institute Welcomes Call from the White House to Accelerate Carbon Management

The Institute welcomes President Biden’s call for accelerating carbon capture, utilisation, storage, and removals (CCUS and CDR) at the Major Economies Forum (MEF).  The Carbon Management Challenge announced by the White House will be a major catalyst in accelerating the widescale scale-up of carbon capture technology, which will continue to play multiple unique roles in decarbonising the global economy, both in reducing and removing emissions.

The Institute Welcomes the UK Government’s Progress on the Cluster Sequencing Process for CCUS

In late March, the UK Government selected eight projects under its Track-1 cluster sequencing process  to proceed to negotiations for government support. The government also officially launched its Track-2 cluster sequencing process, which will establish two additional clusters to transport and store at least 10 Mt of CO2 per year by 2030. This progress is incredibly promising and illustrates a continued commitment to having carbon capture, utilisation and storage play a strong role in the UK's low-carbon transition.

The Institute Facilitated a Capacity Building Working Visit for CCS Stakeholders in Europe

In collaboration with Heidelberg Materials, the Global CCS Institute organised and facilitated a capacity building working visit to the Netherlands and Norway for regulators, policymakers and experts involved in developing CCS projects in Bulgaria and Romania. The visit, which was held in March, provided an excellent platform to discuss the barriers and policy gaps currently existing in Bulgaria and Romania, and develop solutions to overcome them in a timely manner.
